Young Jeff Benson and his elder brother Jacob are left fatherless when their father dies unexpectedly. The tragic event changes the course of their lives forever – and Jeff sets his sights on a life at sea. After several years learning his craft, Jeff returns to land to become a coastguardsman in his hometown of Cranby – where plenty of daring adventures await him.
